ok, lots of stuff going on, so i’m going to use point form:

we were on the cover of the hour in montreal a couple weeks ago, which is super nice.
been getting some nice pre-album-release love from some places including album of the week in the montreal mirror. more. love.
played 2 incredible pop montreal shows. here and here are some photos from the first one. if anyone took some pictures at the second one (at la tour prisme), get in touch because that room was beautiful. i wanna see ‘em.
album comes out in 4 days, and we’re playing an instore at our fave neighbourhood record store Phonopolis in mile end to celebrate at 6 pm (tues. oct 4) (FB event). our drummer works there.
look out for a music video by yuula benivolski (that’s a screen shot up there)
patchy string of fun canadian tourdates begins wednesday oct 5 with our record launch in toronto at the piston with pink moth. full tour dates here.

very excited about everything! and we’re booking more tourdates for november so stay tuned.

Some patchy Eastern Canadian tour dates for you to mark in your pocket agenda, wall calendar, or personal digital assistant. As you can see, there are a lot of gaps, but they’ll all hopefully be filled soon with more confirmed shows. But I thought it would be good to put these out there as a little preview… (BTW, thanks to everyone who came out to our Ottawa show. It was lots of fun! New shows etc

Busy busy! This is the first of several shows we’re gonna be announcing soon… We’re excited to be playing in Ottawa again for the first time in at least two years I think…is that possible? Anyway, here’s the info:

Thursday August 18
9pm doors, $8 at the door
music at 9.30pm sharp

Opening the show will be the ineffable OWL LORIS, aka Jordan Robson Cramer, aka Sunset Rubdown drummer and also The Amethysts drummer whom I also used to globe-trot with in the original Miracle Fortress lineup. He’ll be playing some mind-melting solo guitar/sampler wall-of-drone-pop.

We’re also playing Toronto soon after, and I’ll hit you with that info as soon as it’s confirmed.

I also expect to be able to divulge some more fall tour dates as more of those solidify, including a couple fests that will remain unnamed for the time being. I’ll keep you posted!

ALSO: I don’t think I mentioned this on here yet, but recently we contributed to Herohill’s Gordon Lightfoot tribute album, “Turning Back The Pages Of My Sweet Shattered Dreams.” It’s really quite the collection…massive! We did a sorted of cracked piano and cello rendition of the song “Walls.” Download the entire zipped album here, or download our track here.

June 24: super low-key solo or semi-solo show w/ James Irwin, Cagibi (5490 St-Laurent)

Also, not sure how much I’m supposed to say right now, but the record has found a home and will be coming out early October. It’s called Flickering Flashlight and I can’t wait for it to come out (on vinyl esp.) check out a track here.

Thawing Spring Friends Release MP3s Like Interweb Tulips

Spring is almost here, and kids in Montreal are slowly creeping out of their holes, emerging triumphant bearing mp3s that represent the fruits of their 6 months of Seasonal Affected Disorder. The Amethysts aren’t the only ones who decided to throw a new track into the ether this March. Friends (and members) of Adam & The Amethysts have recently released some amazing music on the interwebz. And I’ll be damned if I’m not going to BLOG THE SHIT OUT OF THEM.

Mozart’s Sister is dear friend Caila Thompson-Hannant, whom I used to play with in Miracle Fortress way back when, and whom you might recognize from Shapes & Sizes and Think About Life. She just released this free EP on bandcamp that evokes Prince and Dirty Projectors and great times.

Generalessa is Scott Johnson Gailey, who just so happens to play bass and drums in the Amethysts. He released these lo-fi bedroom pop songs that are sure to please your sensibilities.

Code Pie is Rebecca’s band, and their new album of feel-good pop tunes is killer. Be sure to listen to the single “Operator.”

And they also cover Justin Bieber’s “Baby” which is not to be missed by anyone, please:

You can spot former Amethyst Rory Seydel in this new video for this awesome Pat Jordache song. Pat is a great and talented man who makes filthy arty pop music that I, you, and everyone else rightfully loves, and his band is among Montreal’s current best and brightest.

James Irwin is another dear friend and this song is just fucking brilliant. Plus it was recorded by Pat. He used to play in My People Sleeping (RIP), one of the best MTL bands, with former Amethyst, Katherine Peacock.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget to check out the PWYC album Odd City by Ancient Kids, the new band lead by occasional Amethyst drummer Jordan Robson-Cramer featuring me on guitar and keyboards. I’m not on this record though; it’s pretty much all JRC.
